Site health and backups.

The checks that keep bookings, reminders and payments working, and how to keep a safe copy of your data.

PartsDue runs on your own WordPress website. That means your data stays yours, and it also means the website needs a little care. Site health checks the things that matter for a repair shop and says how to fix anything that needs attention.

Open Settings then Site health. If something needs attention, the dashboard shows it under Finish setting up.

What is checked

  • Website backups. Whether a backup plugin is running, or when you last downloaded your repair data.
  • Emails to customers. Whether the last test email went out, and whether any email failed this week.
  • Reminders and scheduled emails. Whether WordPress's scheduled tasks are running, so day-before reminders go out on time.
  • Secure website address. Whether your site uses https. Card payments need it.
  • Server software (PHP) and WordPress. Whether they are still getting security fixes, and whether a WordPress update is waiting.
  • Card payments and Text messages, if you have started setting them up but something is missing.

Green means fine. Amber is worth a look. Red needs fixing soon.

Keep a backup

Two layers keep you safe:

  1. A backup plugin for the whole website. UpdraftPlus is free and widely used: install it, choose daily backups and store them in Google Drive or Dropbox. Many hosts also back up every day; ask yours. Site health recognises UpdraftPlus, BackWPup, WPvivid, Duplicator, All-in-One WP Migration, Jetpack and BlogVault.
  2. Your repair data as files. In Settings then Your data, click Download everything. You get every customer, job, part, estimate, invoice and payment. Do this before any big update.

Before you update WordPress or PartsDue

  1. Download your repair data (or check your backup plugin ran today).
  2. Update.
  3. Open PartsDue and look at today's jobs.

PartsDue upgrades its own database tables by itself and never deletes your data during an update.

Who looks after the website

PartsDue checks and explains, and our support answers questions about PartsDue. Your hosting, backups, other plugins and WordPress updates stay with you or your web person. If you would rather not think about any of this, a managed WordPress host does backups and updates for you.
